Welcome to the MUUS  Children,Youth & Family Programs!

Children and youth have big questions, joys and concerns! The Mattatuck Unitarian Universalist Society Religious Exploration (RE) Program endeavors to create a space where young people and their families can find the courage and confidence to develop answers to life’s big moral and ethical questions.

Sundays

Our Sunday RE program supports our children and youth to discover their OWN voices and ways of being in our faith and our world. Our dedicated RE guides use Unitarian Universalist lessons from Soul Matters and Moral Tales then build on that scaffolding using stories, holidays, philosophies, and traditions from around the world to encourage our explorers.

Children and youth are always welcome to participate in the service with their parent or caregiver! Activities and fidgets are available for anyone of any age.

As MUUS adapts to our current world, our events are in-person inside, in-person outside and on Zoom so we can stay connected. Please contact us so that we can work together to meet your “togetherness” comfort level and needs.

Events

At our UCC of Southbury current home and our Woodbury property summer (and future!) home, MUUS events are a wonderful way to bring our UU community of families together. Outside or inside we create moments that mix fun, bigger questions and deeper ideas whether on a farm day, pumpkin carving, making holiday crafts or summertime frolicking.

Volunteering

Volunteering is a great way for families and congregants to connect over shared interests. Our RE volunteer opportunities include leading or assisting virtual or in-person programs for children and families; leading or assisting youth programming; providing nursery care; or sharing a hobby, skill, justice practice, or spiritual practice.

If you are interested in volunteering with the Children and Youth Programs at MUUS, or have idea to share with our RE program, please contact the RE Committee.

Family & Caregivers

In this unprecedented time, MUUS parents and caregivers come together to support, brainstorm, share and grow.. Many of our questions are as old as time while others are a first for this generation. Our family ministry currently holds parent and caregiver Zoom meetings 1-2 times per month.

Our Whole Lives (OWL)

Our Whole Lives (OWL) is a renowned sexuality education program with a comprehensive and holistic approach. OWL provides accurate, developmentally appropriate information about a range of topics, including relationships, gender identity, sexual orientation, sexual health, and cultural influences on sexuality. We connect with neighboring congregations to encourage participation in nearby programs, offer programs when we have sufficient participants, and offer opportunities for parents and caregivers to learn more about supporting sexuality education through the ages and stages of life.

We want to hear from you! If you have questions about any of our programs for children and youth and would like to request a program, please contact the RE Committee.
